My Sweet Caroline

A tiny tot enjoying life
With Weeble-Wobble friends
Saw all as kind before sore strife
Brought innocence to end.

A lass with braided flaxen hair
Dressed in her mommy’s gown
Saw life turn cruel and felt despair
Of love turned upside down.

I’d give the world to take your pain
Replace dark memories
With shining sun dispelling rain
Tame tempest to a breeze.

I caught a glimpse of you today
If only in my mind
That tiny tot in joy’s array
Your future yet designed.

Denise, having been one of those children, I simply can only say thank you.  This was truly a very heart wrenching poem, but so very well done.

Denise,

Lovely. Shows what a kind, loving heart you have. I, too, was one of those children. And, I want you to know, with God's love in my heart I am able to forgive those who mistreated me. I will NEVER be able to understand the kind of ignorance of them....well, actually I do, so, should say I will NEVER behave such as that. I look kindly upon them and know, had they not had such difficulties and childhoods themselves they might have been more able to be decent people. But, I also know, without the hideousness of what I went through I would not be who I am. And, I am happy with who I am. Don't know if that makes sense.

Thank you for this and may the aura of it reach out to all abused, neglected children as I write this.

God bless, Pat

Denise

Some things arise out of memory's closet for a reason...little reminders of things that put life in perspective. This was beautifully written.

The third stanza really got me. Thank you Denise.

It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, & incumbency.

Sharon, (((HUGS))) I know you know the pain, having lived it.

Seymour, thank you for the soft and lovely!

Pat, everything you say makes sense to me! God bless you too!

Nancy, thank you for the hugs and smiles!

Maureen, thank you for the understanding and hugs!

Martie, thank you. Yes, sometimes things are brought up from memory to be released and to put life in perspective, so true.

Winston, thank you. It got me too...a cry from the depths of a mother's heart.

Ethel, thank you for the touching!

Nan, thank you for the lovely! I guess sometimes kind hearts are created through breaking, not something that I can even begin to understand.

Elizabeth, thank you. To have touched you deeply is an honor.

My mother's heart wishes it could turn back time to prevent the pain, to see reality without the blinders, to allow good memories to be formed in place of the bad. My deepest regret in life is that I can't give both my children the childhood that I was fortunate enough to have had.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Denise, believe me, I too was one of those little boys growing up who felt the world was going to collapse upon me and the lightning crash all around me! (sad sigh) My prayers are with your dear Caroline in hope soon she will see the sunshine, sweet friend, God Bless You Both, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Denise, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
