somebody's dungeon

Sometimes I feel the ebb and flow
           of daily life
           washing over
               me,
so slightly. A gentle brush of reality.

A soft touch of fate,
    destiny if you will,
      a caress, while still,
         unmoving, allowing the cascade
              to cover me.

Enclose me in pictures
of today
tomorrow, and yesterday,

and I am left with small pieces of
memory. Vivid, yet twisted, unable
to be grasped, sorted, or even recorded.

Just fragments, that sting in remembrance.

There’s a place that was on Top Sail Island,
T’was a pillar of concrete placed by man,
Could have been for a bridge or peer
But no other pillars of like were near.
I walked the sand to where it stood
Climbed up because the perch was good
I watched the intercoastal waterway
For all the morning and most the day.
The water surrounded me at high tide
As I watched sail boats do their wind ride
And when the tide finally receded
Climbed down and slowly retreated.

There is something of the cascading quality in the poem itself. Thanks.

It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, & incumbency.
