Of oak and nail the gallows built
in sight of bars of steely black.
Where men will come to final word
before the rope is taut from slack.

Their fate was sealed that cold clear day
as words upon the stone were writ
Damned to sway in lifeless pose
beneath the rail of oaken split.

A coward, thief and murderer
were drug the stairs to meet their fate.
No words were said in last repent
before the creak and fall of gate.

A wooden cross casts a shadow
o’er the mounds of fresh clean soil
as once again still stands a gallows
built by their hands in prison’s toil.

A sword when swung in vengeance strike
shall come to haunt the holding hand.
For he who lives by shining blade
shall ‘pon the fate of gallows stand.

BRAVO!!! Oh Barry, this is wonderful and so very true, I only wish there could be more largesse, prowess souls out there today, for so many just fear the whole gallow now and never make an effort to do whats best for those who need our help! (sad sigh) This is powerful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Barry,
Such wisdom and talent. Wow!
It is such a pleasure to read one of your poems and I agree with Sy. However, with the variety your talent offers, I have to say one of many of the best, for each are so special.

Thanking you for sharing with us.

One's lifestyle truly shall be
the death of them ....

I, for one, hope to pass with
a smile upon my torn lips.

A tale of two pities ...
              life and death.
              Well done Barry.

Outstanding poetry, Barry.

I was just hanging around waiting for a miracle, I'm so glad you sent in in the form of a poem. A magnificent poem at that.
