Don’t Take My Poetry Away

Don't Take My Poetry Away

I wonder and wonder what comes with my fate
And the muse that arrived just a little too late
There’s time left to wonder and time left to write
But phantoms creep slowly in hours of the night
Please don’t lift the ink from my paper of white

Invisible thieves have invaded my head
Robbing the child from life’s most tender bed
They’ve plundered the riches that rest behind eyes
From the cradle that once held it’s most cherished prize
Please don’t take a poet’s sweet stars from the skies

They’re slowly and steadily wearing away
The rhythms of life that once skipped through the day
I’m heavy of foot and I’m slower of hand
And a phantom disease is now taking command
Please don’t loose my soul’s grains of thought in the sand

Allow me the privilege to write what I think
Don’t empty a poet’s pen laden with ink

Elizabeth,
This poem proves it is nothing near the truth. You fly on the ink of past and present and the future will follow you in its scent. Love Sy

Keep that pen in your hand, no matter what may come. Your rhymes are always divine.
Hope you are just being poetic here:

Sometimes it may seem harder than it used to be, but those thieves shall never succeed! I think that your best defense against them is to keep a pen and paper nearby and jot down all those fleeting thoughts to help jog your memory when you sit down to write.

As always, Elizabeth, this is wonderful!

Liz,  even when you feel your basket is
empty,  it overflows..  I don't think your
pen will ever not flow with the wisdom and
beauty of you,  your words.

I sketch on my mind
And then write it in time.
Left only to find
That I'm left with a rhyme!

I enjoyed this alot!
And please no, noone ever take that pen and paper.. without it, I know my brain would sure be the equivalent of haunted MUSH!

Hope things are ok for you ...
Always, Alyssa

Your poetry won't leave you
It's embedded in your soul
But if they dare to take your pen
You may fill me up with ink Liz
And I'll cover your paper blanc
With your words that can't be missed

Take care sweet friend and know that I miss you and the little children's playhouse in your garden, where I used to sit in early morning dawn to watch the day be born.

Liz, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hon, take that pen and write down whatever thoughts pop onto the paper. We will all do our best to help you keep your pen full.

Hugs sweet lady ... Marti

To take your poetry away
Would be like taking sun from day..
Would be like taking smiles from joy
Or innocence from girls and boys.

To take your poetry away
Would be like taking warmth from May.
A world without your lines, my dear
WOuld be no place for Balladeer.

Sometimes I feel that things are slipping away, as the desease progresses. When you are first diagnosed with Parkinson's, 70% of the cells in that part of the brain are already dead. They still have not found a way to stop it. And sometimes I think I'll reach the point of not being competent to reason or remember. That's what this poem is about. And I believe that writing poetry is a wonderful exercise for the mind.
I have written 10 books since I started writing poetry and am called on often to write for various events in town. I feel so proud that something good has come from my illness, for I never would have started writing, if not for being confined at the onset. Yes, there is a little thief in my brain. But he hasn't yet messed with the aesthic parts. Thanks for all the encouragement you have given me. It means more than you know.
Thanks for all yoour very kind remarks to this poem.
Liz
