The Beginning and End

The lamplight cast shadows of white cedar limbs
And leaves dance in flutters as summer begins
He holds my hand tightly, we stroll down the road
Holding on to the last nights of cricket and toad

This, the beginning, the world at our feet
A campus lane lined with the trees of deceit
For lovers the pathway had come to an end
Directions soon parted the way of a friend

I still see his face beneath cedars of white
His eyes glowing softly in lantern’s soft light
I wonder if he ever stops to recall
The love that we left there, the best of them all

Sometimes when I’m troubled, the limbs overhead
Offer comfort and peace to a less loving bed
The lamplight falls softly upon his sweet skin
And moonlight creeps down through a white cedar limb

Liz--it seems clear to me from this poem, that love lives in memory, and can be very beautiful.  As always the grace of the way you write leaves me stilled.

Elizabeth, winter may be here but you bring promise of spring.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

I wonder too sometimes if my first love ever gives me a thought, and if so, what does he think? I still remember those eyes...

Beautiful expression, Elizabeth!

Hold on to memories of that old love dear Liz
or maybe better....bring them to reality

Beautiful words and memories

To say that it is wrong
to visit loving memories...
is wrong in itself...

thanks for the view
from the cedars, Lady S...
