I used to know where I was going
Used to choose my paths quite well
Used to enjoy oats I was sowing
And I was happier than hell.
I wrote some lines considered witty
Concerning what life was about
But now I'm lost in Doldrum City
And I can't find my way out!

I've tried each avenue and alley.
I've walked each street and boulevard.
I'm never one to dilly-dally
Just because the road gets hard
But, though I'd love to write some ditty
To bring a smile or two out there
I'm right here lost in Doldrum City
And I ain't going anywhere!

My friends say "Where's that fellow hiding?
We never see his face no more."
And all the pals I love deriding
Are even starting to get sore.
My mind's no longer Walter Mitty.
It never travels anywhere,
Life can be tough in Doldrum City
With its suffocating air.

But I'll keep searching for the right street
To break these chains of atrophy
And help my mind get back the right beat
To write some worthwhile poetry.
Toerag, I offer you my pity
And you can take these words as true
When I break out of Doldrum City
Be sure I'm coming after YOU!

(big huggsssssssss) Oh Michael, it is such a hgard place to walk around in as I am here right now, yet I feel even through air that feels as heavy as a tanker there is always so much to write about and you truly are the master storyteller, so intimidate that Toerag with what you've got as you both will stand your grounds! LOL! (sigh) This is wonderfully written, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing!

May love and ight awlays shine upon you!

doldrum city  - there you are!
I'll bet Toe's gloating from afar
but don't be sad and don't be glum
If you want I'll come too, chum
I'd sit in doldrums just for you
and follow in your footsteps too
for when this slump is dead and done
you'll be around to raise the sun
and then those mockers in despair
will be caught in their underwear
the wind of change, will blow through you
till there is nothing you can't do
you'll cast aside your air of care
leaving doldrum city bare

Although you're stuck in doldrum city
still your work is wise and witty.

Message to Toe, I know you have a perfect alternate last line but just DON'T ok!

Michael, I've sure been in that same city for a week or two. I hate that place, too. It sure is suffocating, isn't it, Balladeer? I hope you find your way out, soon, and get back here with everything you've got.

BTW, can you put your address for your book back in announcements? I was going to order it this month, but I've lost the address....
Thanks, buddy....

I've read and enjoyed many of your postings.  Your subject matter is alway good often with a very pleasant self-deprecatory humor.

Ahhh... Sir Balladeer... how well I understand that particualar part of town.  Got lost for about a year or so.  I'm sure you're better at reading maps than I, so you shouldn't have as much trouble finding your way out.  This piece here seems a good start.  Just remember, two wrongs don't make a right, but three rights do make a left.  Hope you make it out soon.  And a Toe unchecked can turn into some stinky feet!  Peace my friend.

Great piece, much enjoyed!

P.S.  If there is going to be a wit contest I'm gonna have to go get some Cliff's Notes, cuz I'm not so hot with wit....tends to go WAY over my head......either I'm slow or lazy......probably lazy. LOL

You say you used to sow yer oats?
Well, I'm a farmer's daughter
You shoudn't sow them in the ground
But put them where you awter
Now I don't have much learnin'
'Cept for knowin what I know
There's yer problem in a nutshell
Ground don't make yer oatmeal grow

Darn Michael, for someone in a place that's not nice, you still managed to bring a smile to this face.

I think I have an old map of that town somewhere ... if I can find it, I'll send it to you.

Ummmmm, Deer? *G* It might help if you'd quit trying to read the map upside down. LOL

As for Toe, there'll be no quakin'

Did you forget to drop breadcrumbs on your trail?

Oh dear oh dear, that sounds serious
Your signal came out loud and clear
I'm willing to help you out Sir
But I'm not close, not even near

LOL enjoy your break Michael

Hey, calling all poets! calling all poets! sir Balladeer is still needed here!
Our Mother, Earth, may soon decide the lowly (cock)roaches should inherit the planet, since we humans seem to be hell-bent on destroying it. So, we still need you to stay active dear Michael.
Your Muse must stay on full alert.

Always a pleasure to read you sweet poet ... maybe we need a fresh duet to kick us into gear and find our way?

’Deer dearest heart if you’re in Doldrum City where then am I? Probably the Outer Hebrides and there’s no place further from civilisation that that. As always darling heart you write with wit and still manage to make me smile. I can’t wait to see Toe’s face when you catch up with him as you will.

Truly this is something very very special, and while you’re wandering those streets look out for me, I’m the one looking very lost and I’ve got no map, you know how good I am at getting lost I make a career of it almost.

Fabulous writing as always, you are the King around here and always will be, you know I love this utterly utterly utterly
