Still the Same

Beside the glowing fireplace tonight
I saw you rocking in the flickering light
I said,” My, what a raw and bitter night”
But in that moment you had left my sight

I keep within emotions that I feel
For others think I have no sense of real
But you and I took vows until the end
And death would never take away a friend

Nobody understands what’s left behind
They say hallucinations fill my mind
But it is you alone who fills my heart
Two soul mates still together, though apart

You are my life’s companion, still the same
And sometimes in the night I call your name
I know that you are gone, and yet you’re here
And whisper loving notions in my ear

“The fireside can warm a bitter night
A raging blizzard’s always such a fright
I’ll set a cup of tea beside your chair
For I know that you’ll soon be sitting there”

It’s no one’s place to judge or disbelieve
Realities I never couldconceive
It’s better not to mention things I know
And let the joy within my bosom flow

One person’s truth is someone else’s lie
One soul’s belief another would deny
And who can say what’s real and what’s pretend
Or if a dream’s ‘s been found around a bend?

More real are you beside my fireplace
Than spinning worlds that fly an unknown pace
I see you sitting by the flaming light
“My, isn’t this a raw and bitter night!”

There are some things
that we can never let go...
and you are remembering
one of those times...

blessings on you, dear Lady Santos...
