If you look closely you can tell
she’s not all that well…

A double dose of reality
each waking day keeps her hope
from becoming feverishly
high.

She mixes her own novocain
for her heart-crushed bitters
and tarnish.
It goes down hard but the
numbness she finds
necessary.

She balances the concoction
she downs with a little one,
the color of sunshine, who
seems to make it all
worth while.

Liquid energy is consumed
cup after cup, it is required
to keep her upright until
it darkens into what has
never been right
when
she swallows another-
this time its pink-
but color matters not-
once inside it puts
the black back
into the night.

If you timed it just right
and slipped in between her
blinks you could see
that she’s not well, but
what is more apparent than
that is that she’s got
what it takes
to hide it.

I liked this little "pharmacopia".

This "Day in the life"

This "Mothers' little helper"

This all too real glimpse at an all too real person.

It sounds as if her only cure is freedom.
Great write here

JB,

Oh, sad....if this is you, please be careful...I'm glad you shared it here, so it's not hiding anymore

I'm trying hard not to say more....

Hugs to you and if this is ~real~ may you soon find strength to deal with this heartache and ability to set it aside.

though I understand sometimes we need to medicate...(actually, though many, many years ago, I have been there, and you name it, it was prescribed for me) The best cure for me was getting rid of my husband...magically, I needed to no more meds...funny how that works, though this is no laughing matter.

The help of a wise friend or therepist is important, too.

I so enjoy your talented writing....
it is part of you...

God bless and give you what you need.
Hugs, Pat

I tried to write something very similar to this recently.  Reading this...I think I'll start over.     Damn real.

I liked it before, but like the edits very much, lady... thanks for making it more blonde-friendly. *S*

I'm no doctor... but it seems this life needs a lot more of those sunshine colors and a lot less stress. *S* Wishing you peace and sending you hugs... and admiration for another great write. *S*
