Moved from a shack to a barn

He stood tall
Straight
And proud
If, somewhat gray

But fell suddenly
Silently
Sometime last week

None, but he, knew
For there were none
Around to hear
Or care

Earlier trials
Had left limbs denuded

Many seasons
Bared the trunk of limb

The uncushioned impact
Found him shattered,

Scattered pieces
That once welcomed
The warm blooded
And light-hearted

Are fit shelter now
For only the cold
And the crawling

That is way too broken for my liking.
Sad, very sad.

Enjoyed this "feeling" poem; touched very deeply, and I hope and pray this is not from personal experience.

hmmmmm...I'm still trying to figure it out. It sounds like a tree to me. I'm not a real deep thinker I guess. Anyway, nicely done dear wranx.

I can feel the pulling apart, and uplifting of roots that once stood so tall.  I like the idea that in the end it provides a home again.

Good work wranx~

Ed, even though you titled it "Metaphor For Nothing", it felt like "something" to me that was sad........
Hope your limbs are staying warm.......

to be just one of them if only but a day,

Wranx,

This poem evoked sadness in me and left me feeling introspective.

"But fell suddenly
sliently
sometime last week"

I liked this

"Scattered pieces
that once welcomed the
warm blooded
and light hearted"

Reminded and again aware of how fragile we are...

Best to you and peace of mind be yours.

A stark and honest look at how little some life seems to mean in death.  Excellent write Ed.

Love the way you turn nothing into something.
Trees chopped for wood and walls; hearts and bodies like mere disposeable kindling.
Your poetry is always multi-layered.
BTW, how is your multi-layered body doing these days? above the frostbite level I hope.

I too saw the tree standing in the forest, felt the shudder of the earth as it fell. Everything happens for a reason - even the fallen tree serves a purpose - fulfills someone's need. I enjoyed this very much - it was gently done.
