somebody's dungeon

I beg the gods more time
more complete of thought
   in rhyme

please delay
the death of me,

p r o l o n g

the very breath in me

that life may continue
though the spirit has grown weak.

The story isn't finished
  I just learned
that undiminished
is his love for the child
he appeared to shun from birth,

it's too soon to leave this earth

not now when peace of mind
in a corner I did find.

Shaken from his reserve
to speak words that were deserved

just shy of too late
  some emotion, he relates.

Can the image etched in stone
ever be revived
can it be brought back to life

by a mere whisper of love...

dear father, I pray

it's not too late in the day.

this piece reminded me of my dad, he wasnt a talker i guess, great at the stocks, lacking in his words of love and feelings, i'm gratefull that i had a chance to speak with him before he died, but i wonder often times if perhaps he knew something was wrong before it happened, one day out of the blue he calls me into his den for a talk long over due....and i was able to hear all the words i'd dreamed of hearing from him......and 18 hours later the plane was down and my dad was gone.....hugs.

Nature has a funny way of breaking that which will not bend....Jewell

Thank you for your response. This poem is indeed about my father. I've yet to have that sit down chat where he says all the things I'd always hoped he would. He did write a poem though in response to one I wrote called "The Box Of Dreams". It's the only time I ever heard, even if it was only in a poem, some of the things I'd always hoped he'd say.

Again, thank you for reading and responding.
