Walking with the wind, pushing on my back, chilling wind, urging wind,
Winter has come harsh, short days of hunger, nights of want, always want,
Walking in the wind, tears freeze on my face, days barren, all barren.

The birds took to wing, flying to the south, to the warm, somewhere warm,
All is stones and dirt, grassless fields of brown, snows coming, death’s coming,
Nothing for the ox, starvation is near, kill the ox, eat the ox.

Thin soup now feeding, spring bring new needing, growing time, planting time,
I will take the yoke, being the old ox, walk these fields, plow these fields,
Each year we are more, each year we have less, on this farm, this poor farm.

Gloom
SIJO
A short Korean poetic form consisting of three lines, each line having a total of 14-16 syllables in four groups ranging from 2 to 7 syllables, with a natural pause at the end of the second group and a major pause after the fourth group. The third line often introduces a resolution, a touch of humor, or a turn of thought. Though there are no restrictions on the subject matter, favored ones include nature, virtue and rural life.

You express the tribulations of our farmers beautifully, PG... and in a novel style - That's always a treat...
