Better  to  have  known  love  and  lost
than  not  to  have  known  love  at  all

This  statement  is  made  so  often
but  is  it  really  always  true

MAYBE

For  someone  who  isn't  hurting
from  a  lost  love

MAYBE

When  the  heart  ache  doesn't
make  a  heart  bleed

MAYBE

When  the  lost  Love's  face  doesn't
cover  their  mind  every  time  he  or  she
closes  their  eyes  to  sleep

MAYBE

When  the  memories  are  just
memories,  not  so  real

MAYBE

When  heart  doesn't  feel  broken
into  millions  of  pieces

MAYBE

They  will  think  so,  then
just

M-A-Y-B-E

its a hard toss, i know, ethel,
i always risk it tho, give my heart, even at the expense of it being crushed, i cant help myself, im afraid if i put up a permanent gate, it will just grow too old and cold.
like this very much

Inkedgoddess, did you read it before I separated
the words or after? I don't know why that
does that sometimes. I'll think I've got the words spaced
out just right, then look at it and they're all jumbled
up together. I even have a hard time reading it, then.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, I know...
I always jump right back in, too. I guess that's why
my Dad gets so afraid that I'm going to get hurt.....again.....

Ethel,

Yes, many ways to look at it, but I think time is a good healer. What happens for me is I have the memory of the quality of the person, no matter the lose by divorce, separation or death.

In part, for me, is the memory of how it feels to be loved. And cherish that. I think the worse part, again, for me, is in the missing the person so badly....but...times helps.

Thanks for this. Had a hard time reading it though, but maybe my screen is not all it could be.

Hugs,   Pat

..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..

I enjoyed this perspective, the twist of an old saying we hear, but maybe never listened to the bass line.

You know, that is how fathers can be...Even
when they don't say it.  Perhaps because they
have felt this too, in their own time and
place...now a memory...maybe!!??

Well done, I think your spacing is just fine.  works very well as is.

Pat, yes, only time can heal. And, the good memories
are to be treasured.

(Is the font better, now? I could hardly read the
other one either.)

Thank you, friend...

Kacy, I know. Sometimes i say things to people,
trying to help their feelings, before I stop to think how
I would feel in their situatuion.

Barry, you know you just may be right about the reason
Dad's think the way they do. Of course, he wouldn't want my
Mom to know that. Even though they've been married to
each other since she was 17 and he 18, they still get
a little jealous sometimes. They're really cute.
They're so close, that I'm afraid neither of them will
live very long after the other passes away....
I don't even like to think about that.....

BTW, you probably read the poem after I fixed the
spacing. When I first posted it, all the words in
each sentence were running together....I wonder why
it does that sometimes? Do you know?

You're very welcome, Dixie.

Remember, more people know how you feel than you may
ever really know. You just have the ability to write your
feelings better, maybe. Like I told you in my reply to
one of your poems, I think it would help me to heal
completely if I would write more about my past experiences.

Thanks Ethel for the nice poem. I can relate. I know the line is true, but when your heart is aching so much it never feels that way, until the ache slowly goes away. I too am like you in that I never want to be afraid of letting my heart open again. That wouldn't be true to myself, you know?

I did something along these lines once

To Have Never Loved

‘Tis better to have loved and lost they say
Than never to have known true love at all
But I, who’ve watched love quickly slip away
Would rather not have taken that cruel fall
O'er many loves, those tears of loss I've cried
But those be mild and darling oh so few
Compared to when, my love, you up and died
And took my broken heart along with you
So now, I live here lost inside my pain
Your memories are only in my mind
I’ll never feel true love like ours again
My heart is gone, this shell is left behind

And to the grave my voice will surely call
‘Tis better to have never loved at all

Oh Ruth, even though your poem is so sad, it is so
beautifully written. Not only are the words so
well-written, they are also very feart-felt. I could
feel the emotion all through the poem.

Thank you so much, Ruth, for sharing that poem.
And, good luck to you, sweet Lady.........

inkedgoddess, I'm glad that you read it again.
I had a hard time even reading it to separate  the
words. I wonder if Pat read it that way, too......Thank
you for reading it, anyway.....

Ethel, maybe it is true and maybe not. I don't know. For my heart has been broken and I feel alot of pain. So, for me, I say it would have been better not to have loved at all. Thank you for posting this.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Ethel, I too believe in that quote, though I will always cry thinking of how I could have loved Joanna and missing her always is inevitable! (big hugggssssssss) I want a girl so much who I can always love, this is so deeply touching, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

i think the classic response to this would be:

dot-dot-dot  . . .

Isn't it strange how loves that didn't last,
or couldn't, in hindsight, seem like the just the right cards weren't drawn....but could've been....

MAYBE

nicely accomplished writing, Ethel!
