That stalwart General, standing there.
So quiet at the end of the line, yet still waiting.
Ring the bell, call out the firemen, start the trucks,
sound the alarm...

General?  Are you still there at the edge obedient?
Still silent and poised?   Or are you taking a nap
in your daily snooze?

A finger poised at the door, ready to push in the
ivory button, small light staring back at me...
Saying “Go ahead, make our day!”

Fighting the urge, grabbing the wayward and
mischievous hand.  Struggling against the strength
of sinew and bone, of muscle and blood.  Slowly,
ever slowly retreating from the urge as a sweat
beads the brow and breath frosts the chill of
midday air.

Walking away, content that it will wait, not wanting
to become the wolf that grabbed the boy, or was it
the other way?

Stand tall General.  I know you are poised to meet
the moment.  Ever ready for the alert...

P.S.  I’m right there beside you Buddy, near the
end of the line...

(Dedicated to our devoted Moderator....General Alert!!)

HaHa!!  Now here through the whole thing I thought you were talking about that game, again....See how much I know about it?

(I sure am glad that you wrote that at the end for people like me....I would have surely embarrassed myself...AGAIN.......
It would have been...
