Blues Man
By Paul Wilson

Standing here at the crossroad
With seven string in his hand
Young man on a one way road
Waiting alone for the man

Deal maker is coming fast
He will take your soul away
By him no shadow is cast
Play on Mister Blues man, play

Fire in his soul does burn
Reaching the top is his goal
It’s the blues he wants to learn
Sign here, the price is your soul

Another soul lost today
Crossroad of life filled with tears
Old man with hair turning gray
Traveling this road all his years

They say blues come from the soul
When love goes wrong the soul sings
Not at all like rock-n-roll
The blues played on seven strings

As lone wolf howls for his mate
Blues man cries tears with his soul
No hope, resigned to his fate
Deal maker coming he’s told

They say you’re born with the blues
It allows your soul to bleed
Blues men they have their own muse
God save the blues man we plead

Play Mister Blues man play on
Let your soul bleed one more song
Devil will wait one more day
Play one more before you’re gone
~~~
enchantingvamp~ I thought the same thing after writing this, but I can't play any type of instrument or carry a tune in a bucket.
I would like to see someone try putting it to music just to see how it would sound.
Thanks for taking time to read...Paul
Paul,  like this....also makes me think of
another song...think a Johnny Cash song,
"The Devil Came Down To Georgia" or something
like that....not sure....But I am sure you
remember it too....
I am horrible on song authors and titles,
so please forgive me if I slaughter it all
to heck and back...
Lookit YOU!!!
*kisses for a sweetface*
And ya had to know this would get my attention! One of my favorite themes. This is a wonderful treatment of a deeply ingrained legend. Oh my...I have the giggles now remembering...Y'know that band I used to hang with? Roaring with laughter now, altho it wasn't funny then. On our way to a "gig" somewhere near the Ms./Ala. border, we had passed a road that was the closest thing I'd ever seen to a crossroads. There was much joking about that...but later? After the show, (the band had played to a meager crowd of locals bored out of their minds) the drummer disappeared. So had the bass players car. On a hunch, we back tracked, to find him sitting there, at the crossroads, drunk and weeping, because not even SATAN showed up for his soul!
Well. Considering how things turned out for him, I'd say that was debatable. sigh.
Thanks for triggering the memory with this wonderful poem. You are just tackling that meter thang, Paulie!
Now, Paul, you  KNOW  that I can't make a very effective reply right after Karen's....(I'll bet her act was a hard one to follow)......
Anyway, this really does sound like a song. Maybe somebody will put music to it.
BTW, like the picture, too...
(Karen, that was a compliment above.....)
Loved being allowed to take a peek at this side of you, Paul. Picture and poetry do blend sometimes, don't they?
Paul,
The blues is multi symbolic, but I liked your approach.
Sandpiper~ Thanks for taking time to read.
I guess I've seen that movie about 5-6 times.
Some of my roots are in that part of Mississippi, so I guess thats why I like the blues so much...Paul
Nan~ Your replies always leave my heart feeling warm and good. Thanks...Paul
Nancy~ Thanks for your sweet words. My best!!
Are you trying to give me a swelled head?
Glad you enjoyed it...Paul
Barry...Glad you enjoyed. That song was sung by Charlie Daniels and I believe it was the basis of the movie. Thanks again for taking time to read and reply...Paul
Serenity~ Well glad to have gotten your attention. Given where you're from I know you have the blues in your soul as I do. I sure hope that drummer turned out okay. Memories are what keep us in touch with reality and glad to have been able to trigger some of yours.Now for that meter thingy I'm trying, I can't seem to grasp the stressed - un-stressed syllable thingy yet.
If you need to get rid of some bad critters you can use my picture LOL
Thanks for reading and the lovely reply...Paul
Ethel~ Very happy that you enjoyed this. Thanks for the sweet reply. I really do have hair, it's just not real visible in my picture LOL. Take Care...Paul
Midnitesun~ You are so right, the blues will always survive through the test of time.
Glad you liked this poem. Seems like most of my poems are about sad things I guess thats where this one came from...Paul
Seymour...I agree with you about the blues being multi symbolic, I can be happy as a lark and still connect with a good blues song without any effect on my mood and when I'm sad they are like an old pair of shoes, that fit just right. Thanks for the read and reply...Paul
