The move...
Anticipated as delicate nails rake
the piece..

A pawn, mere rubbish to the royalty
standing behind in somber and silent pose.
Queen’s pawn...always the gallant soul
to trudge into battle...

Eyes lock across the chasm wide, a wry
grin all that may be seen as a dark queen
firmly holds the challenger in defense of
chivalry and chaste.

Knowing this traditional parry, a single
mounted horse gallops to defend, to poise
ready for the battle nigh.  Undaunted, unwavering
eyes scan the field of battle, the chasm both dark and
ominous beyond the edge..

A door now open, exposing the wary and wicked
Bishop....jumping diagonally....moving swiftly
into the ranks of fearless warrior pawns...
Resting, awaiting a message of surrender...

Shall there be quarter given....shall prisoners fall
as cordwood onto the rubble of a kingdom doomed
to fail and fall?

A sudden shift of blues, a lip bit....nails tapping lightly
upon the stone abutment of the board....Shall she
gamble all?  Or shall she allow the rogue king to
have his liberty....

Laughter fills the halls as maidens dance a victor’s
dance....The rogue king, a dark queen....till the
dawn comes on red skies...

Barry, my Love simply loves to play chess. He could play for hours, and quite good at it. Maybe if I can put my imagination to work like you do, I could really learn the game.
Now, I think it's kind of boring....but not your poems about it...

I'm going to send him this one, if you don't mind........
