Listening to every heart

0 posted 2003-01-11 08:12 AM

19 and lowering

It’s warmer when it snows,
so they say,
though chilled climes
of something below
living
still see snow…

it’s just cold,
with too-blue skies
and the leaves still skippering
along…

where you dare not
breathe deep
fearing frost on the lung
(the start of
cryogenics)…

I think I need snow
to see me to spring,
so the thaw
is appreciated

and grass greens below me
with a spongy moss feel
that I might be welcome
to lie upon it
and hear the heartbeat of the mound…

and I think I need snow
to give a reason
for hunkering down
and laying a log on the fire,
for cuddling…

but it’s just cold.

Maybe you should have ended it ...  saying
it is just too cold...  Playing that battle
within the mind,  trying to convince ourself
to go get the firewood....

Nahhhh...let it rot,  turn up the heat
another notch....

Yeah,  the title fits to a T....

*"Ah!  Wonderful"...Nancy says, shivering!*
That's a Canadian cold front don't ya know?
Sorry about that m'friend.
Just cuddle a little closer to the fire.
I love this...and snow.
It does make us appreciate Spring that  much more.

Fantastically woven, Karilea, I truly believe you've shown the essence of how you're feeling.

You make me, again, want to write about the false promise of the morning at 5:30 today, 2 hours ago by my time. I hope I do and do as well, well, almost as well as you.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

smiling at that cryogenics line.
After having gulped some -60F air in Alaska, I should be a well preserved past-tense poet.

(me here...not knowing how to reply to all the  COLD  weather ya'll are having up there in the North...)

I love to see pictures of the snow and read about it, but I'll take the "cold" that we have here in Florida....it is kinda cold here today. Well, to us it's a  LOT  cold here. But I don't think I will mention the temp........certainly not below zeroF.
Okay, I'll hush......

Hey Karilea, did I fail to mention that I love the way ya'll tell about the cold and the snow up there?  It really is beautiful, you know, the way all of you write about it. And the pictures of the snow make me speechless, for sure. And at least when ya'll have to stay in, some magnificent poetry is certainly written. That's one good thing, isn't it?

Snow?  I live in So. California, so I'm not sure what that is.  But this was enjoyable just the same.

I know how you feel. It is cold here too. And, I don't even have any heat in this old house. So, I am definitely looking forward to the spring.
