FINE, BE THAT WAY
By: Noah Eaton
1/10/02

Mandi said "A man that makes you cry
isn't worth your tears.
A man that is worth your tears won't make you cry."
So why the disparate face?
Why so petrified of being obviate?
Can you pick right back up on that punchline?

And there I am, getting the latest scoop
Caught the papparazzi in the attic, overhearing this quidnunc
As if I didn't know already
And you make circles like a kangaroo
Drunken on eucalyptus leaves in a blind mans zoo
Does it taste like the nostrum or apathy?

Fine, be that way
Break my heart again
Slap me on the face while I feel nothing now
Fine, be that way
I'm not worth your tears
I know you're incapable of crying a river without salt

Six feet underground I'm concealed
I'm avert, tucked away, stave off
Learning to reason with the nightcrawlers
I have Claude T. Bissell tucked in my back pocket
In the other I have a bubblegum strip fortune
Washed and dried in a laundry maelstrom

And there you go, push me away
Without turning your shoulder to see if I turned out okay
But I was already well gone
And I'm starting to recognize
That I'd prefer a sterile imagination over a learned mind
Where did I set my foundation upon?

Fine, be that way
Poke my remains with a stick
See how thick my notion is
Fine, be that way
Don't say anything
It's none of your business

Tell me, do you judge the book by its cover?
Tell me, do you love to skip the epilogue?
I can hurt you know
Why can't you see what's going on?
You were worth my tears
But you make me cry
Why can't you, why can't you, why can't you
Why can't you feel...
How it feels to cry...

Fine, be that way
Watch me as I struggle
To get up back on my feet and waddle
Fine, be that way
Don't say goodbye
It is only the saddest thing I have to hear tonight
FINE, BE THAT WAY
Don't talk to me when I say hello
I'm sure you'll wish you had tomorrow
FINE, BE THAT WAY
Don't be my friend
You still have a ways to go
To learn how much tears are worth...

God, tell her
I wish her the best
And hope she finds what she's looking for
God, tell me
This was all part of your plan
Reassure me that there's something more
God, tell her
I wish her the best
And hope she finds what she's looking for
God, tell me
This was all part of your plan
Reassure me that there's something more
God, tell her
I wish her the best
And hope she finds what she's looking for
God, tell me
This was all part of your plan
Reassure me that there's something more...

Noah,

Some great lines here which I like:

"prefer a sterile imagination over a learned mind.."  and,

"Why can't you feel how it feels to cry?"...

well written, though sad...

many hugs to you, Pat

..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..

When we are full of emotions gushing out ready to spill.....we create our best writes.  I am so sorry you are feeling the most unplesant of emotions right now, but you sure penned it well my young friend.

Noah - Write out all of the sadness until all that's left is happy thoughts - and I know that you DO have plenty of them, and more to come. hugs, Chris

Noah, this one aches all over the page.
Time for an ice cream cone? Rockies hugs. Remember, the midnitesun shines just around the corner, not too far from the Tattered Cover, where many tattered hearts mend amidst the shelves.

***Noah***

You are a great writer. You express yourself so well, but it does break my heart to think of the pain you are feeling..because I know it so well. You are very lucky to have all these people who care about you, something I felt I never had at the time.

and by the way, you were right about the Matchbox Twenty song Disease. I downloaded it and it is quite similar to the poem I wrote. Thanks for bringin that to my attention

Noah, a lot of powerful emotion in these lines. It's not easy, but in time, the sadness and the anger will ease.

alright, i'm confessing. i think i
may be falling in love with your poetry.
youve gained my respect with your
metaphorically-emotionallyfueled, thesaur-
us-big-word poetry.

maybe it's because i'm a sucker for
music, and this [well the format anyway]
reminds me of a song. good job.

Noah, my dear friend,
You have chosen the words of great bards to write of a deeper anguish.  The joining of love is a wonderous joy, but the parting of it is the stuff of tragedies.
You deserve so much happiness....be patient,
and it will come to you!

Noah...I know it's hard right now and you've heard enough of that "around every cloud is a silverlining" bull.... to last a lifetime. Been there, done that; but, it does get better my friend and love that is meant to last will do exactly that...LAST! You are young, and the pain is strong now, and the scars may never totally heal, but I gaurantee that the will lighten with time. Broken hearts do heal my friend and the scars are left to remind us of where we came from to get where we're going. Please feel free to e-mail me if you'd like or need someone to talk to. You are such a sweet and loving soul and I know that around the corner magnificent things are awaiting you.
Love,
Ruth

In Healing Rhyme

Your words were fashioned into blades of steel
And from my gaping wounds, my poems bled
When sliced so deep, you thought I’d never heal
You turned and left me lying there for dead
I hemorrhaged out the pain in every verse
And tried to ebb the flow to no avail
What was my cure, I looked at as my curse
As cleansing tears from my blue eyes, they fell
I cried out to the God of heav’n and earth
He sent me friends to help me in my pain
And though you left me doubting my self worth
Through kindness, I began to live again

Your words of steel, they cut me like a knife
But rhyme and friends, they brought me back to life

In heaven every tear we shed is counted and put in a bottle for sweet incense, so I know your tears are worth more than words can tell.
