I closed my eyes and refused to see the pain
It was all around me and I turned away from those who asked
They wanted hope, love and help but I said it was to much to ask

Oh God, I turned my back on her Christmas day
I sent her away and now I'm watching the news
Their taking her body away on the stretcher

I cant stop crying its my fault she's dying
I left her out in the bitter cold
I left the frail woman alone

I went to see her today but I was to late
Her funeral is next week and my heart is about to break
She left me lonely and cold in her wake

Why didn't I try
Because of my selfisheness
She had to die

OH what a sad situation you found yourself in.  Still, you should not blame yourself for has happened.  I know we could all do much more to help others...and maybe your write just brought that to many others attention.  Possibly you saved many others today.
