In darkest shadows of memories play
clouds obscuring the brightness of day,
crouching in corners alone and afraid
living behind the lies that they have made.

Playing with dollies, tea parties at ten
but they won't come, their to busy again.
Tears rolling down cheeks, colored hues of blue
a little girl lost, needing love of two.

Growing in life, breaking free from the chains
helping others, self confidence to gain.
A frightened little child, she is    no more
she has found the answer    love is the cure.

She didn't cry, she didn't shout, I was blind but I see now..
she was breaking from the inside out...
(as sung by Tracey Lawrence.)

You bet I can HEAR you.  I am not clever enough to give you writing advice but I can't say how please I am that you are finding a way out of your painful childhood.  I am still working at putting mine into perspective.  Barbara

Barbara, I am fortunate in that this isn't about me, but about children I see like this......way to often.  I hope your pain heals, it is a terrible thing to endure.  Hugs.

Donna, you said it best when you said love is the cure.  It can help us overcome so much in our lives.  Beautifully penned!

the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Donna, this is such a heartfelt write. All I could think about was those little ones from NJ who have been in the news lately.

May they find the love they so desperately need.

Hugs, Marti

Wow, thank you all for your responses to this.  I see the signs of abuse around me in day to day life and every time I see a child that has been abused my heart goes out to them and I wish there was something I could do to help.  Sometimes just offering a smile or a hug really helps these children, they need it so badly.  Again, my thanks for your replies and your care.  Oh how much better a place the world would be if only more people would care and take action.  Hugs and peace to all.

(and yep, I am in Pa, lost as usual.....lol.....)

even the smallest of children know
that the cure for living sad
is to love
once more

Donna, your words continue to breath sighs  into my life, and paint a day in hues of hope.
