stone sober
an extended moment of disorientation
in familiar surroundings
my knees ache for the proper aromatherapy
my liver has sent a representative
on behalf of the unemployed workers
however I am bound to remain at my station
near the phone
anticipating its ring
a chance for something lewd and carnal
at the end of the other line
keeps me in check

the hours gradually dissolve
the sun becomes defunct
the picture in the window turns black
footsteps above
come home from work
go out for the evening
the moon is in full tilt
cats mew in the byway
heat pipes fill with water
this room fills with tepidity
I try my hand at the word
pour some water down my gullet
hiss at the bass resonating from somewhere above
storm clouds overwhelm any lingering optimism
and the phone
says nothing
it only speaks
when spoken to

Incredible. Love the way you capture and convey.
