In a nation
where it takes an hour
to commute from one end to the other
and all your cliques
from various stages of your life
know one another vaguely,
one grows up as a frog in the well,
without realising so

Unveiling my ignorance,
I witnessed mere children with offical tags
soliciting for customers on the streets,
experienced needy orphans
being thrilled after my piggybacks,
apologised to shrivelled elderly
that I really couldn't give them money,
endured with a man with a half-foot smoking in my face
and gasped (inwardly) at the sight of a big-headed boy with small sticks for legs

Yet I return and
engage in conversation
about topics we secretly dread
but nonetheless discuss at length
because our lives are so darned mundane

I am the only animal in the circus
who has successfully escaped from his chains,

only to be shrouded by loneliness

well written and gritty... facing the truths of the world around us and being aware of them is not always pleasant..and while it frees us in some ways...we are still chained to the whole...

enjoying your writing here... looking forward to seeing more

This made me nod my head vigorously...made me wanna turn up my collar against the cold.

Wonderful insightful piece.

Personal growth?
My body says no, I don't want any part of that! while my brain and heart say yes, I have room to grow.
Am I schizophrenic?
Have a great weekend, kaile.
