The rules of darkness are thus,

No hint or flicker of light you trust,
But stay to the shadowed way,
Letting the night become your day.

You most move with the shadow
For it alone can hide your sorrow,
Cool emotion and drown your lust.

The steaming water won’t warm the soul
Close your eye in tears to hide
Keeping all locked deep inside.

No flames of passion will light the way
You must long for the darkness to stay
Adjusting to the endless numbing cold.

For some of us at all times and all of us sometimes there is comfort in the cloak of darkness.
