Listening to every heart

From a long ago challenge...

In the Moonlight, Shadows Dancing

In the moonlight, foggy moonlight, misty dark and still
comes the shadows dancing, ‘cross my window’s sill.
Misty foggy moonlight, embracing all in memory
what lies ahead in moonlight, let my starving heart then see.

Shadows of past transgressions come forth,
and they now sage, not of merry mirth ~
proof of what was taken from Mother Earth,
now weighs me down, waist in chains now girthed.

Silently the drums roll on, through the moonlight’s call,
in the moonlight, shadows dancing, dancing on the pale;
silently the shadows show the misery of man
in the moonlight, shadows dancing, no one took a stand.

Shadows dancing, beckoning me, come to the moonlight
feelings of feelings of feelings, I simply cannot fight,
on toward wisps of beings, gone and long since past
lay before me broken promises, strewn upon the grass.

Oh in the cool damp moonlight, shadows do slow dance,
to have lived and loved the earth, a life's greatest romance,
for without a promise to the earth to hold in great esteem
life will lose its hold on me, and all of life’s great dream.

In the moonlight, foggy moonlight, misty dark and still
comes the shadows dancing, ‘cross my window’s sill.
Misty foggy moonlight, embracing all in memory
what lies beyond in moonlight, let all the truth to see.

now weighs me down, waist in chains now girthed.

Wrap ‘round me,
Metals from deep down inside,
Weight ‘round me
Worries I had hoped to hide;
Silver chains
Upon these hips harshly ride
With their pain
Walking on my muse does glide.

Karilea, I thank you for resurrecting this beautiful poem. I enjoyed reading it so much and love the way you put the words together.

I will come back to this and read it again later today.           Hugs, Marti

a good read

a lovely, lyrical rhythm with which to start the day

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
