Fish In The Sea
By: Noah Eaton
1/4/02

Perhaps I tried too hard
Perhaps I didn't look hard enough
So now I take another dive into the drink
Take my cannonball to the ocean, so I can sink
Hurry, breach for the plankton
Don't spend too much time at the bottom
You might not get what you're missing
Hurry, before the harpoon stabs you

You try and bring a stranger to this harbor
Attempting to make it right at home
But all along the plaza all is either taken
Or killed...
Or killed...

So how long till you get lost?
How long till you screw the whole thing up?
I don't believe in Social Darwinism
But I'm aware of the survival of the fittest
So why do they say there's other fish in the sea?
When we're all allies and enemies?
Must I divide and conquer the coral reefs myself?
Where is my territory?

You try and bring a stranger to this harbor
Attempting to make it right at home
But all along the plaza all is either taken
Or killed...
Or killed...

And I'm wasting myself away in this bathysphere
When I know squat about oceanography and its ethics
I feel I can swallow it all, then what's left?
When all I feel is infatuated?
Every ebb tide feels rebarbative
How do I know my mermaid is underwater as I speak
What if she's been lying on the rocks this whole time
And I'm leagues within remission

I know there's other fish in the sea
But with all the oil contaminating the waters
The facts sound so heartbreaking to me...
So I sit on the pier, strumming this sad accordion
Sleeping in a pirate ship
Staring into the lonely Pacific
Wondering if I am a free dolphin
Or a product of Van de Kamp's

You try and bring a stranger to this harbor
Attempting to make it right at home
But all along the plaza all is either taken
Or killed...
Or killed...
Or killed...
Or killed...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Noah,
it must be your destiny to sail the stormy seas of life keeping others safe while braving the battering  winds and rain alone.

Don't klnow how I missed this yesterday. You must have posted it while I was gone to my parents house.

It's good you're saying what you think, Noah....Just keep letting those emotions out.

By the way, sometimes people don't know the exact words to say, so
they say things like "there's other fish in the sea".........
People care and just want to help, friend.....

I've been told that before, too, and at the time didn't want to go  FISHING.....
But, look what happened to me and
Gary...we had both been hurt and weren't even fishing when
we met each other. We sure are glad that we did meet, though...

some tears in the heart cannot dry easily
some tears in the fabric of love are hard to mend
But's it all part of learning and loving
and to our ownselves
we must tend.

Gorgeous poem, Noah....my soul is sad for your loss.

Noah,

As you know, I am very sorry for your loss, your pain and your pure heartache, and the shock of how it all came about, but I must tell you, this poem is outstanding; I enjoyed this masterpiece so much.

There are too many lines for me to point out.  I LOVE this poem. You are awesomely talented and I thank you so much for sharing with us your gift
and your welcoming love with all your replies.

Hugs and Love, Pat
