The Hand of a Poet

With the pen as the brush, paper as the canvass
The Hand of a Poet strokes his thoughts
Like the painter, he too produces the picture
Using your mind as the backdrop

With a dash of feeling here, and a little emotion there
The hand of a poet strikes deep from the heart
Places the heart of the matter upon you the reader

Van Gogh and Renoir were remarkable with their brush
Like the poet, they too must have had a steady hand
Like the Painter, Shakespeare and Hemingway, must have had a heavy heart

Contrasting yes, opposite I dare say
That hand of a poet, is a hand of extraction
Unlike the artist, for today I will sigh and prove my point this way
For their will be no retraction

One simple statement from the poet and you will relate
For with this you will understand why
As the words of emotion from the heart seal your fate
To you I say, I've yet to look at my favorite Renoir painting and start to cry

Dennis,  inspiring...very nicely written,
I too enjoy the reflection of a poet and
that part of them that is so precious to
us all....

Yes, but how long have you gazed into Vincent's eyes?
I enjoyed this read very much.

No matter the print or picture, it is the mind of the beholder that makes the music.
Enjoyed.

I love the line "Using your mind as a backdrop." A wonderful thing to keep in mind...the reader provides many of the fibers of the "canvas."

I have wept when viewing a painting, but I believe it was only one. "Forgiven," yet, unfortunately, I don't recall the artist's name. But I do know that my personal experience and knowledge had a great deal to do with my perception, as with any piece of art.

You've penned a fine weaving!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
