I have felt
your icy hand
upon my shoulder
twice before
Asking me to dance
the final dance
The first between
the pavement and steel
of one who went
a little too fast
on a residential road
but I declined
but you took a tooth
and bloodied lip
as consolation
The second time
your touch
a little more
persistent
It's frost seeped
through bone
and marrow
Tainting the
red river
and bruising the land
But again I refused
and the compensation
my pride in having
to lie for
fear and confusion
What now my old friend
Is it true
that the third time's
a charm?

Aenimal - the third time could be the charm, but one never knows...

Raph, I saw  LOTS  of things written between the lines in this one.
It's too early in your replies for me to say what I'm thinking....or maybe you may not even give any sort of explanation? I don't know if you're talking about yourself, or someone else, actually.
Now, that means you're a very good poet, friend....

Actually Ethel It's never too early to give an opinion or share a thought so be my guest. I'd written an explanation of this poem erased pulled it because i wasn't sure about the reaction I'd get not wanting people to think I was seeking attention or worse pity, this was loooooong ago and I'm fine now. It's just always left me wondering will their be a third and will i be forced to dance?

Aenimal,

Sy is right. Also, don't  lock yourself into thinking the third time is "it"...Someone else has a poem about using these down times to really think, appreciate what we have and hold our loved ones a little closer.
Glad you posted this, for it does just that. And, glad this was awhile ago and sounds like you are recovered. We don't know what tomorrow holds so making our todays all we can is important. Forgiveness was also pointed out in noted poem.

This is good. Wonderful reminder.
Thank you,
Pat

Thanks Dixie I'm glad too

Thanks Pat, oh I fully recovered the same year it was a rare blood disorder. I'm not locked into that thinking but the third time is a charm is a saying we often use, also in italy there's a similar saying so it was on my mind.

Sounds like your a fighter to me....and I myself have had a few dances. One really scarey one that took awhile to recover from(a broke neck from a car wreck)..But Hear I am and doing better than I ever thought possible.

Enjoyed your take on this.

It's not how many times we dance - it's how gracefully we live between dances.

Glad you're a wallflower now...
