STRANGERS

How sad!
After twenty five years
And two children
We are still,
And have always been
Strangers.
We have shared
Only our surface feelings,
Our sexual meetings
Have been out of duty,
Not out of desire.
Our lives together
Have been exactly as
Expected of us,
No more - no less.
You have given me
A burden of
Material possessions,
These objects are nothing,
They feed your ego
Allay your guilt.
Friends are wistful
That they do not have
This caring husband of mine.
They are fools,
Damn fools.
They are so blinded
By wealth
That they do not see
Me for what I am,
And nor do you,
My partner of so many years.
I am literally starving,
From lack of affection and love.
I am a passionate woman,
Locked in a dispassionate prison.
I am emotionally deprived,
I feel unloved by you,
And yet, you use me,
And I,
Like the starving person I am
Grab at these moments, hungrily.
I long to tell you
How I feel,
But the fear
Of your rejection
Silences me.
Maybe you have a mistress,
I neither know,
Nor care.
I am certain
Of one thing,
I would rather
Be your mistress
Than your wife.
I would rather be
The object
Of your desires
And fantasies.
I am tired of being
Your dutiful,
Untouchable,
Over-respected mate.
My wish is,
Simply, to be your own
PRIVATE WHORE.

This one is a lie or imagination - certainly not truth.

My perspective of me is different,
As I look out from within,
Than that of others on the outside,
Trying to look in.     ©spirit

I hope not....I was fixing to send over
tissues via Fedex, or some other courier.

Well penned,  and true to many...of both
sexes...

Spirit, I, too, am glad this is imagination and not true.
It's a very well-written poem, but so sad when it really is happening.
And yes, as Barry said, for both sexes....
Sad......but true, way too often....

*heaving a sigh of relief*
glad it's not you, but really, these things do happen, and it is so tragic.

'tis a sad reality you write of, so glad it is through insight and not personal experience--enjoyed!!
