I regret to inform you...
the paper fell silently from her hands,
the same way his life's blood fell
on some distant foreign lands.

All those years they played together,
those days climbing the olive trees,
shaking the juniper bushes,
jumping over puddles in the rain.

Did anyone gain?
Barbies and GI Joes scattered
themselves on beds of bombs
laughing and crying intermingled
for all time,
now forever lost
in dry desert dust.

Down south the kookaburra
laughs;
he too has heard
this mockingbird's
plaintive cry before,
the repetitive cry for peace
that echos from all lands ends,
where the very word Peace
seems to have fallen
from Webster's, the Governments,
and the Media's mindsets.

I regret to inform you...

oh... goodness...

ouch

Heard all too clear... its amazing what the five words can do to a life.

How a single alphabet can bring the words which when heard tear apart lives.. from loss.

Wow.
Always, Alyssa

War is but a playground of regrets to the innocent ....

      ... excellently "peaced" together, KC.

Mine too, Karen.

GG, yes, how a single bullet rips apart the seams of life.

Craig, peace hugs to you dear friend, always.

Spirit, thank you for reading. Welcome to Passions.

Kacy, I find it hard to comment here. I spent some time getting "gassed" and arrested in the 60s. But, find myself conflicted now.

Guess I didn't comment at all...sorry

I feel this though.

Oh, Kacy....yes, you captured many people's worse nightmare...and living fear.  How sad for all who have friends family in services.

The starkness of this image is very effective Kacy, as is the message.

Ed, you always post real gut wrenching honesty. We really are on the same wavelength, as Van would put it, for the truths behind the present conflict(s) seem to have fuzzier edges.

Pat, it really is a nightmare, one that seems to play itself out 24/7.

Duncan, the reality is even starker, isn't it? Hugs to you sweet poetry pal.

Powerful Kacy and I do agree these days the lines are fuzzier. There is little to no counter culture as there was in the 60's and governments move with impunity. Heedless to the cries of it's people, most of whom are to fickle to be bothered to care. Until they get a letter perhaps..

Salty, Shadows, Marti, Raph, Donna;
Thanks to each for your constant warmth and for your unique poetry. That dreaded letter has already been circulated too many times.
Time for a new letter, the one that declares he/she is coming back home because war was outlawed on Earth and there is no more need for fighting.
