The empty coal bin,
Taunts me as the flame dies down,
I’ll switch to wood then,
It’s a walk cross snowy ground.
Crunch through the ice crust
The west wind made it icy
As it rounded high peak thrust
Heading to the sea.
Gathering in cold
Off the summer pile stacked high
All that I can hold
Arms full with a frosty sigh
Stepping in my step,
Through the windy winter howl,
Retracing each step
Coming back from the wood pile.
Inside I pause there
Back in the warmth of fire,
I feed it with care,
Not to let it expire.
I knew this old tree
It fell of ice last winter
This year it is warming me.

Blow wind blow
Cross fields fallow
Whip white blades of snow
Drum upon my window

Lovely picture you've painted, with deeper meanings. Enjoyed. No black widows in that frozen wood pile, I'd like to think!

I knew this tree and where it stood
just beyond the spring at head of wood
and in its age it fell to earth
and now in reverence burns in hearth

enjoyed this Gloom...
