If You Are Mine
By: Noah Eaton
12/30/02

Our hieroglyphics can be soiled with tar
Every wise man can be tried as illogical
When candles are thinned from the flame
And the moths are aggregated in a dead silent vibe
And should the hate never be extinguished from this worlds soils
If the good old times return and leave you homesick
If the serpent taints every apple on every tree
And if this is my last breath, the last verse I'm allowed to speak

But as long as you're here with me
And I can feel your breath
And I can hear your heart sing like a music box
As long as you swear the oath
That you still love me as I love you
I will survive this big flood
Because you mean the world to me
And I worship you
Without you every day is like the same crossword puzzle
But if you will be mine forever
My heart will go on...

Should innocence be tampered and contorted
If all the remaining fish are left to swim in fishbowl asylums
If every friend I've made was just a riddle in flannel
When I can't tell what is right and wrong
If my fundamentals are all torn to shreds
If I fail to make my own convictions
If every poet is left to play this accordion
To spell out one last elegy on the Scrabble board

But as long as you're here with me
And I can feel your breath
And I can hear your heart sing like a music box
As long as you swear the oath
That you still love me as I love you
I will survive this big flood
Because you mean the world to me
And I worship you
Without you every day is the same crossword puzzle
But if you will be mine forever
My heart will go on...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

You blend a wondrous vocabulary with such constrasting images, Sir Angel.  It is always a pleasure to read you.  KJ

Noah,

A wonderful, deep, lasting love, you've portrayed.  I like this a great deal.

May this new year bring you abiding and beautiful love, that which your heart gives back to all of us, in your responses to other poetry and in your own, as well.
Hugs and love  Pat
