Listening to every heart

The First Day

Some 1,277.5 days ago…
a warm summer day, just past
the solstice,
with all of the stars and moons of days and nights
yet to come…

I remember
that first day…

I remember the tentative
oh my…
of chance meeting luck
meeting luck finding fate
finding fate by chance

it was much smaller then…
and only a week or two old.

A babe of the netherworld, it seemed,
and like a mother missing her own newborn,
I stumbled over it,
not knowing its origins,

just knowing…

how much I wanted to be a small part
of this wonderful…

place!

Would they laugh?
…jeer?
…or worse yet,
ignore?

None of that, it seemed,
was the makeup of Ron,
and his few hosts…

slowly, cautiously, tremulously,
first one poem,
then another…
but it was just as much fun to respond,
to leave a kind thank you
as anything else.

A peek around indicated no hidden fees,
no “join this and we’ll give you more…”
no, none of that.

Simple rules, some guidelines
a place where poets just come to meet,
and greet, and hail, and hold…

where we hear, and are heard,

and when we are hurt, we find,
and give, consolation…

a place of sharing,
caring,
and wishing all well…

whether they come,
or go.

If you build it,
They will come.

Thank you Ron, for the fine craftsmanship
of this remarkable poet’s home.

For you talents, and time.

For your trust, and friendship.

For Passions.

Hip, hip, hooray!

Karilea,

I agree with Nightshade. And, thanks for writing this. I too, thank Ron for creating this very special place. So much more, than a place to post poetry, for it gives us a chance to grow in many ways, and share more with strangers than we sometimes share with family. Awesome, this site...

Thanks Karilea, how thoughtful and well-written.
Hugs, Pat

I too remember my fist day...my first posting.
Paladin introducing me to Passions and telling me I had something to offer.
Boy was I scared..but so warmly welcomed.
My fingers trembled like performing my first magic trick on stage as I hit the 'submit' button.
And it is so much fun just to read and reply on days when the words won't come easy.
Yes..thank you Ron, for this haven we call home.
For it is a home away from home for so many of us.
Wonderful heartfelt write Karilea.
~Hugs to to too for all you do~

Karilea

I don't know how I managed all the poems in my head, before Passions.  I think they must have been like birds with no nest...now home for them is here.  Thank you for this...thank you,Ron!

Karilea, long-winded me can't get started about how much I like my "home" here, and how everyone has been so nice and treated me like real family from the very beginning.

No, I'd better not get started with all that, or how when I feel so down I think I'll crawl in a hole somewhere and all of you help me to feel better, or how when I'm so happy that all of you rejoice with me.....

No, I'd better not start with all that either...

You know that if I get started with how much I care about and appreciate all of you, I will go on and on and on.

I did remember, though, when I read your wonderful poem, Karilea, what happened the first time I posted a poem. I had been reading here for a long time before I ever joined. Then it was a couple of days before I posted a poem. I liked reading and replying,  and thought I would never post any of my own, because I knew that the little poems I write are nothing compared to all of you fine talents here. But, I finally got up the nerve to post one of my own. Oh Lord, it was a mess. I had everything running together on some of them (still do sometimes)    Then, I don't know how many times I tried to get it in the center. Karilea, I guess you were like a mother hen watching me, because soon you posted a reply and told me that you hoped that I didn't mind you fixing it for me.
That's only one of the times you all have helped me......

THANK  YOU,  RON,  FOR  THIS  WONDERFUL
HOME  AMONGST  MY  FAMILY  OF  FRIENDS!!!

Thank you for this great telling of the history of this place to gather and share writing and friendship.  And my thanks too to Ron for the work involved.  KJ
