My Mum brought me a frangipani on Christmas
Day and they are one of my favourite flowers.
After inhaling the exquisite perfume I was
inspired to write this.

* * *

A heavenly scent that
awakens all my senses
It's fragrance transports me
to a faraway tropical island
where the Tahitian breezes blow
and the sun sets like gold
across the horizon

I imagine I'm lying in a
hammock between two
swaying palms, sipping
on a tropical cocktail
as the warm Summer breeze
brushes gently across my skin

As the moon comes into view
and the stars stud the sky
waves of desire wash over me
as I frolic in a sea of love

............a paradise I have created
within the confines of my mind

I am in motion
I am blue
Love is an ocean
I'm anchored in you

They're favorites of mine, too. *S* If I'd been able to make the gathering in Florida, I would probably have snuck off to a nearby nursery that specializes in plumeria... for their beauty and fragrance transport even the most frazzled person into the tropics... just close your eyes and visions of mai tais appear. *S*

Hi Sue, I'm not sure what this flower looks like, but I sure had a great vision of the tropics, the hammock and the ocean from your poem.

It felt wonderful to read this. It's very cold here and we had tons of snow on Christmas night and no power for hours! We made the best of it though!

Hugs, Marti

This takes me way back....when I was an
island girl in the sun.  I remember filling paper bags and stringing my own leis...... Like a fond memory the scent lingers on and on.

Those were some of my finest days....

Enjoyed your poem and your inspiration Sue~

It's said the Frangipani teaches the lesson of generosity. All their lives, they give, they give us thier fragrance and when they die, they give the medicinal qualities of  their dry remains. Supposedly they stand for unconditional love, openess...and of course their beauty is something to behold.

Wonderful gift!  Wonderful write!

And here all this time I thought frangipani was something to eat.  It smells a lot better than it tastes.  Enjoyed this.

Hello, Sue....
It's good to see you.
I'm glad that your Mom gave you the gift, and that it inspired you to give this gift to us.
I don't guess I've ever seen the flower you spoke of, but it sounds beautiful.
Thank you, friend....

Sue, this is wonderful and a lovely gift from your mother.
Now I'm going to have to go out and hunt one of these beautiful plants down.

Sue, I just had to see what this flower looks like. It's the one that lei's are made of and it's just gorgeous. I have never seen any in this part of the world but thought for others who don't know it either, a picture would be nice.

Hugs and good luck with it.  Marti

Sue:  I can only imagine what it's like to see and smell frangipani!  You made it almost come alive for me.  I can relate to the sea and the hammock however!!

happy New Year!~

Thank you one and all for your lovely comments and I am so glad you were able to envisage the true beauty of the frangipani flower through my words.

Marti, a special thanks to you for providing a picture for those who weren't familiar with this exquisite bloom.

As I write this, it is 36 degrees celcius here in Melbourne today, the perfect conditions for the frangipani.

Take care......Sue
