picture perfect imperfections
-----------------------------
[three nites after senior prom '02]

------
kodak camera, undeveloped
hiding pictures of a soap opera ..
left there
ignored,
undiscovered,
atop dusty bookshelves
managing envious
encyclopedia collections

------

finished with such a
compelling sincerity ..
detailed with the
reflection of chandelier
lights left there, on your hair ..
perfectly coveted with a
blemished confidence.
you were playing charades

you were playing charades

dressed your soul in mascara ..
covered the poison
with red curtains,
cradling the concerns
inside eyelids ..
[too heavy, too heavy to carry]

captured picture-perfect imperfections.

you're so minimal,
misplaced,
beside shameless primadonnas
and tuxedo-casanovas
you're so untitled ..
holding fruitpunch dixiecups
while selling yourself
to pickpocket papparotzis.

you look miserable.
you're so ugly.

but ..

you smiled.
for the camera
for me.
you gave in ..
and you smiled,

i came undone ..
and noticed
that you're just, so beautiful

when you smile.

---------------------------------------
"and i dont want the world to see me
because i don't think that theyd
understand,
when everythings meant to be broken
i just want you to know"

[goo goo dolls]
---------------------------------------

Chris,

I enjoy this greatly. From the title
"Picture Perfect Imperfections"

to this line:

"you were playing charades"

to the last lines:

"I came undone
and noticed
that you're just, so beautiful,

when you smile."

You shined an insightful spotlight on a moment in time and made it real.

Warm regards, Pat

Chris,
I liked the way you painted this picture with words of a time in your life. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Liked that visual, good reflective look at what is all too often an annual exit charade. Glad you enjoyed that smile she gave you. You can always edit out the parts of the pix you don't want to remember so vividly.
