~* The Music Box *~

He handed me the music box
as if it somehow belonged to me.
It wasn’t wrapped in paper or ribbon,
only his love that I could see.

She was of the finest porcelain.
A red-haired angel inside an egg.
Her hands were folded in prayer,
behind her clouds of gold inlaid.

He spotted her in an antique store,
while traveling a while ago.
He wondered if he could get her fixed,
to somehow make the music go.

She had a broken wing on her left,
but outside of that she was the one.
Should he take a chance on buying her?
Could this damage be undone?

He said he knew he had to have her,
it was as if she sat there waiting for him.
He'd tthe chance ~ try to get her fixed,
so he purchased her on a whim.

He took her to a jeweler in New York,
and spoke to him of his request.
He mentioned that the antique store,
said if it could be done, he was the best!

He told the jeweler about two friends,
Who knew each other over 50 years,
And said he wanted this music box
To soothe some of his mother’s tears.

He wanted a particular song installed,
and wondered if that could be done.
The jeweler said to leave it with him;
the challenge would be fun.

He went back in three days as told,
and was delighted at his work,
The music box looked good as new
so he paid, and thanked the clerk.

The little angel now was perfect.
The egg was now shiny and bright.
A tear even welled up in his eye
as he wound the key that night.

He bought me that music box
as he thought she looked like Jenna.
It was this gift for me you see,
as my angel’s hair was also henna!

He handed her to me like it was nothing.
Already tears welled in my eyes.
This time all the pain I held inside,
flowed out, no way could I disguise.

For when I wound the key to hear,
the jeweler had put in Jenna’s song,
through my tears I found myself,
actually singing and humming along.

"Where Have All The Flowers Gone",
tinkled away magically, so clear
from the little music box I held,
given by the son I hold so dear.

"Why didn’t you wait 'til Christmas,
to give me this gift I’ll always treasure.
He simply said, “I Love You Mom,
and I'm glad it gives you such pleasure."

How blessed am I to have a son,
who feels my laughter and my pain?
And if I could have him all over again…
Well, I'd do it again and again!

~* This is a true story *~

I received this gift from my son early for Christmas last year - and it is one I will treasure always as a great deal to me.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sharon, this is one of the most beautiful poems I've remembered reading and just reading it again is such a special experience to me as you and your son share such a beautiful love together! (wipes tears) I just bought my mom the Elvis #1 Hits CD and she loves Elvis so uch and misses hearing his hits so much and when she opened it she went into tears because she loves me as I love her so much and because the childn in her came back which made me cry in cheer! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You and your whole faily, sweet friend, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Yay!!!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love

Will the wind remember the names it has blown in the past?
With this crutch, its old age and wisdom, it whispers no ... this will be the last.
