"On a Christmas Morn"

The room was purring softly
blindly unaware of the spoiled innocence.
An open oven door provided the Season's warmth
Oh, young child, sleeping late
on a Christmas morn
Held close in maternal embrace
in the single bed
He lifts his head to see the tree
decorated in popcorn pearls
and also notices the absence of packages
underneath.
He snuggles closer, a small tear
glistening, but without sadness
for he knows that is just how things must be.
Mother, with wry smile, wakes
holding her son tightly, a small tear
glistening, but with absolute adoration.
And, as they lay together:
hearing the holiday music bleed thru walls
She whispers:
I love you so, Son. Merry Christmas.
His eyes full of her
His soul tipped to the brim.
It was then, in that precious silent moment
as his big tears glistened in the snowlight
he heard his only gift this year
bark softly
from under the bed.

Awww..thank you Noah, and sorry I pulled the tears from your eyes.  This is my take on an O'Henry type story in poem form.  While Christmas has its excess, i find that the most enduring tales often come from it's human shortfalls.  Merry Christmas, Noah.  *s*

It's that time of the year, i turn to mush, Nance.  Bigtime....my heart just melts each time i pass nursing homes, or see that sad look on a child's face as he looks longingly in a window at things he won't receive.

If the world is in tatters, then we should All be tailors.

Merry Christmas, Nance!

Jeff - this is so touching. We should all count our blessings this season....actually in every season. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Chris
