She sat alone and wished for a tree,
for friends and family and blessed company,
for a fireplace with its friendly glow,
and presents or a kiss under the mistletoe.

She wanted Christmas spirit for her blank journal pages,
and lights to annihilate all the Dark Ages.
She wanted to dance, to laugh and to smile,
and a year of special memories which she could compile.

But it was her tears which made the ink run
and she broke down as she thought of everyone
who was out partying or snuggling with those they loved
and gazing up at the stars and thanking God above

For all the things missing in her life
and her painful reality cut like a knife.
But as she flipped back through her journal,
her focus shifted from ex to internal.

She remembered those who had left their mark
who, to her darkest hours had brought a spark
and she began to wonder how many people there were
who had been touched by her smile, or just by her...

And deep down inside, she felt a small tingle,
which was not due to lights, or Mr. Kringle
she realised her life had influenced many
and this made her so much happier than any

Christmas tree or fireplace could
and she told herself she never would,
let anyone else feel what she went through
and that's why she's sending this poem to you.

*****
I wrote this while feeling rather down and alone on Christmas Eve last year. I've found the happiest times of the year can compound even the tiniest feeling of unhappiness a hundred fold. So I hope you all spend some time thinking about the impact your life has had on the world, and know there's someone out there thanking God you met them. Merry Christmas everyone, and thanks for making mine extra special.

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

This is extraordinarily ~special~, the insight so important to help balance some of us, who are alone, or, even lonesome, which is possible even in a crowd. The change in prospective is everything, can change a mood very quickly.

I've been liking your poetry a great deal and watching for it. Enjoyed this.

Hugs and warmest regards, Thank you
