Knights of Death
stalk the night
bringing holy day gifts
to children in fright,
tucked into bed
with a warriors plight;
their night dreams are screams upon the snow,
forever marching to war we go with
those little tin soldiers
we scatter about
as the real ones die
in a scream and a shout
for Peace, not War.

“I do not want to die,”
said the young man to the King.
“Sorry,”  said the King,
“but it’s your turn to play.”
This chess game is
neverending,
and the King is always protected
at the expense of the pawns.
Even the Queen must fall,
if necessary.

My strategy was weak.
My Pawns faltered.
My Knights rode off
and did not return.
The King castled himself,
threw the Queen to the front.
The Bishops ran and hid,
for they understood
it was the end of the game.
And the Darkness of the Knight advanced, smiling.

hmmmm... seems an indictment against sacfificing the unwilling and unaware for the protection of those who control... timely...and nicely done...

Kacy, this is a very good, deep write.  Serve up another round, please.

Thank you, Ron. Yes, indeed.

Duncan, sorry to scare, but Jiminy made me do it.

Elan, thank you for that reply!

Thanks, Raph. I prefer the board game, where we get to start over again and again, and get more than one chance to get it right.

I just know I don't have the patience or the mindset to be good at this game, but you make me want to try! Awesome poem Kacy!

I've always enjoyed the game and found it an excellent catalyst for poetic expression.  I bow to your fine use.  Peace to you and yours.

Checkmate!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Shireen, try Chess sometime. I have a feeling you would enjoy it.

Andrew, thank you so much for reading and for your kind comment.

Pat, thanks! Glad you enjoyed.

Larry, Let's play!  I used to play blitzkrieg chess, with a 5 minute timer ticking away, Bobby and Boris style.
