I'd like to dedicate this poem to our young poet friend, Wind. She replied to a poem of mine and her words touched my heart. It's the time of year to give each other gifts - and her words were a gift to me (I'm sure she didn't even realize it). So I wanted to give her something in return. She is such a sweetie!!

Daughter of the Wind
Chapter in the Immortal Clan Series

With cries in storm on winter’s night
Her newborn frailty was shone
In the lightness of her flaxen hair
And the thinness of her bone

Her mother knew she would not die
For immortal she was born
Life would be hard for such as she
A child tiny and forlorn

Her mother turned away in pain
As the dawn eased into day
But the child did not give up
As the forest began to sway

A mighty force blew about
An assault of nature’s force
It seemed the child thrived upon
A windy wayward course

Her tiny hand escaped the fur
As she was cradled by the fire
Wind blew around the Immortal Clan
she showed them life’s desire

Drawing strength from raging wind
That hurled about her on this night
Her arm waved with sudden force
Her cries no longer slight

In ceremony of their tradition
They gave her name - Wind’s Grace
thus she traveled to womanhood
in this immortal place.

I like the rhyme scheme
I like the first quatrain
that this poem begins with

I also like the image of a swaying forest. I was picturing a forest doing the hula-hoops.

This is too strong for pretty, but I love the images, the forest, the wind, the baby's cries. Well done!
