I cannot write you every feel of the moments I was there
Nor can I give to you all the words I cannot share.
I can only share with you part of what I did see,
and this I want to leave, and write a part of me.

I sailed the ocean mighty, I sailed the oceans blue
I went there for the fighting, I went there for you.
I took my life to harms way, where foes did reside
in a place where only this ship and men could hide.

We sailed the oceans mighty, these voyages from home
our task not taken lightly, with courage we did roam.
The depths of the waters, so deep to crush us when
our lives would be taken, the souls of gallant men.

I left behind a woman, a child and dog or two
to sail the ocean mighty, for freedom in the blue.
We always went in silence, our service was stealth
and from our daily vigil came a nation’s growing wealth.

The war is now behind us, a cold war of much doom
It always did remind me, of the terror and the gloom.
If once more I could be there to sail the oceans blue
I would gladly go where the battle looms anew.

For sailing of the ocean and stalking of the foe
is to be my one destiny where sailing men should go.
We sailed the oceans mighty, we sailed in harms way
Now old but still hardy, if but for one more day.

For all who have sailed in harms way...those who
are still on patrol and those who have returned,
holding the memories...

Barry,

This is beautiful. But, more, thank you for protecting us. That seems so little to say with the magnitude of what you and so many others did and are doing. But, thank you.....
for your willingness to be in harm's way and willingness to do it again,
were it possible.

Hugs, Pat
