Tumble Rumble

Winter storms spring them from their roots
no longer bound, they roll along,
be free, be free, cries the wind song.

Some gather against highway walls
forming spiky, defensive lines,
see how tightly they intertwine.

Others meet beneath semi-trucks,
dragged to death, dusty and shattered,
weedy lives that never mattered.

No one cares for the tumbleweed
dotting lonely desert landscapes
but once in a while, one escapes.

If you see one firmly planted,
take it home to be transplanted!

Corinne

I loved the humor in this, and the view from your eyes is always so interesting.  I love tumbleweeds, wish I was one sometimes...they make wonderful innerds for floral creations if you can get past their thorns.  Much more attractive within the landscape then plastic bags, yes...I like them too.

How true this is, but not for all of Kansas...

but the imagery...is amazing.  Did you know that there is a tumbleweed "farm" that grows them for shipping across the country, to be used at art, and as Christmas trees?

Yep!

LOL. I remember dodging those things on the highways from So Cal to Texas and back again. We used to spray paint them white and put hats and scarves on them, voila, our 'desert snowmen.'

Corinne,
   "be free, be free,
    cries the wind song"

I like this and it is how some look as they go rolling along, free and happy, too!

smiling here....

Corrine, I like your poem and the different ideas to decorate tumbleweeds written in the replies.

(sigh) Oh Corinne, this is wonderful, sweet friend, we have many tumnbleweeds out here in Colorado as it is a desert out here and I actually admit I love seeing them roll on as they are but cowboys who have their own pilgrimage to undergo! (kiss on cheek) Yay, I love this, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Agreeing with Martie about tumbleweeds being great for floral arrangements.  That reminds me that I should do more flower arranging...lol.

Corinne~
I really enjoyed this very much.
You've penned it beautifully and with wonderful imagery.
Nicely done.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments! I had no idea tumbleweeds were used for Christmas decorations and as snow men!

Coincidentally, while out to dinner last night, I saw three tumbleweeds in store front window - sprayed gold and stacked one on top of the other!

Thanks again!
