Just another night of bliss
we played church of rock-n-roll
in the Opal--
a four door--
minus one.

Just because the driver
loved
himself
you know
that he could not
afford
a hair
spent
out of place--
afterall?

Life is short.

He hit the curb
but licked his curl
while steering that car
with his knees.

He did not
miss a beat.

We sipped
before the beer
could froth
the freezing
ember
of our yearn.

Yet we leapt
absurd
in dance--
scrape
of knowledge--
a romance
of loving
with
a handle gone.

I guess you'll have to exit "right."

But hey?
Yanno?
His hair looked great.

"Emerald City"
was ahead
in the days
of just one bridge

going in the search of hope
where even dopeheads over-dressed--

(sometimes in chiffon...)

Can't remember
where we parked
can't remember
where we went--
our feet knew
the cracks to walk
we found ourselves
at Guys & Dolls--
wondering

which door was this?

"Gentlemen"

    or

"Not at All".

French doors in
the French Quarter
should be approached
cautiously--
I saw my friend
open the door
and slam it shut--
he saw g-string
on the friend
who caught the bus
with   him    at
the end of block.

Then he opened door again.
He thought he saw
a Ben Franklin
grinning from the groin.

Then he had to wipe his eyes.
He said, "My friend?
Say my eyes lie.
Tell me that I do not see
Scott--there dancing in g-string."

Donald said, "C'mon. Gitout"
Donald thought this couldn't be.
He opened door so he could see,
and tried to wipe the sight without.

But he took his glasses off
and wiped them on his shirt.
"Damn" he said, "I don't believe--
I wish the man had worn a skirt!"

Scott had played
football with them.
They always said he had such grace.
A wide receiver, till the end.
And? He had a pretty face.

A French Quarter Memory

Karen, I always know when I see your poems posted that I going to enjoy reading it. This one was no exception. I did enjoy it. It felt like I was walking down the streets of New Orleans.

smiling...I thank you all much, and if you can stand it? There is still another story behind this story.

My poetry hating husband woke this morning to find me sitting here, and shook his head, and said, "What do you get out of this?"

I told him it made me happy--it was like hanging out with friends and shooting the sh-breeze....and then I had an idea.

"Pull up that chair and tell me one of YOUR stories."

and he did. This poem was the result.

So...shrug...it prob'ly won't stick, but for half an hour? I made him understand.

?

Thanks forum, for ALWAYS understanding.

(smiles) Oh Karen, this is so wonderful, sweet friend, I love it!!! I felt as though I was just walking through Dixieland and the French Quarter and envisioning you and the football player and the times you shared, this is wonderful! (kiss on cheek) I love it, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

smiling...believe it or not?

The hubby just came in from work awhile ago and the first thing he asked me was?

"Did we get any replies?"

Uh Oh.

The first sign of addiction.

(laughing)

Hugs all.
