If I were writing poetry for class
I would expect to get some kind of grade
And possibly, I would or would not pass
Depending on the effort I had made.

If I were writing verse to win a prize
I'd pay attention to each dot and dash
No error would escape my watchful eyes
And maybe I would win a little cash.

But I am simply writing here to friends
Kind people here that I have come to know
And whether I am good or not depends
On what I have to say and not the flow.

So if my poetry is not correct
Small comments do not interest me because
I'm writing for the people I respect
Who judge me for my heart and not the flaws.

Your poetry is correct my Deer
In every way you penned it
It's not because I am your friend
But from my heart I meant it

Your heart and your poetry are flawless. No one can dispute that.

I think we all have our own reasons for writing and posting here. The comfortable feeling of sitting on a sofa listening to my friends recite their poetry is all I ask for - and that's the feeling I get at PiP.

Ah Michael ... beautifully said, sweet poet. It's been a long time since I've written on the spur of the moment ... but you have a way of bringing out my words through yours.  I loved this treasure.

Perhaps that's why I can simply title this response back to you ...

Why I Read Here

When I recline before this glowing screen,
And gaze upon the words and phrases there,
I drift to where my poet friends have been,
And through their vision, read each word with care.

I seek the images they draw to mind,
Immerse myself in all they have to say,
Draw strength from the emotions that I find,
Enveloped in the lessons they portray.

A laugh, a frown, a smile or even tear,
Will often surface as I take it in,
From love to loss to happiness and fear,
My mind is shaped by all absorbed within.

On days I need to know that there is hope,
Beyond realities within my world,
Each poet's heart gives me a means to cope,
Through every heartfelt line that is unfurled.

Thank you for these ideas whirling about in my mind tonight

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit

As always, I enjoy your wonderful words and thus, deem this a keeper!  You're one of the reasons why I still post at Passions and I have always respected your talent and am proud to call you 'friend.'
You've made the grade, A+ all the way!

BUT!, you do have one teensy weensy flaw M'deer - you like me don't ya?! you poor, poor man     hehe even I give myself a headache...there's not enough aspirin or booze in this world for any man to handle lil' ole me and to think you've made me your manager!

Take care,
Melissa~

We need no more proof of how special this place really is than these responses. Occasonally we will have someone come by and let us know that our poetry is not up to their standards. It reminds me of the "not seeing the forest for the trees" syndrome. They are unable to see the intangibles. We are not here to meet anyone's standards. We are here to write, to form friendships, to find a kind or friendly ear when needed, to share whatever little pleasure or even pain life deals us, to have a few laughs...these are the intangibles. I've never seen a friendlier or more supportive group of people. We welcome everyone, regardless of race, religion, nationality or level of poetic expertise. We don't pretend to be anything we are not. I've seen people post poems about how "lousy" we are, make threads in the Alley about how we "suck", spend their time with unconstructive criticism of our poetry and all I feel is a sadness for them...because they are either unable or unwilling to recognize the excellent intangibles of our little corner of the world. Don't ever change....I'm proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of people.

Great response, Kit! I feel exactly the same

Well Michael, I don't know if I should even reply to any more poems or post any more, since it seems I'm one of the main subjects being graded.
But, I would like to say that I have really appreciated all of you fine friends and family I've met here. You have all made me feel very welcome, even though I'm certainly not a professional writer. All I am is myself and you have all accepted me as that.
Your poem is exactly how I feel, too.
I thank you and every other member of this family of friends for accepting me the way you have and making me feel like I'm one of you.
Thank you, Michael......

Voices on the Web
a Vision, and a quest
a sampling of love,
brought by the very best ~
From a world of poets
a wonderful lot, it's true,
as there is magic in their words,
and wisdom, and some views...

To make this world a better place;
a simple deed, you ask?
Nay, not so simple, it took months,
but all accomplished a little task...
and we came as one,
but wrote of the multitudes...
for change begins in the heart...
and in one's attitude.

I know I try to share as much "pain" with Balladeer as is humanly possible...and, being the quiet, calm, collective and patient type as you all know, I don't let things bother me at all, I guess it's just that "shy" thing I have. (Now, I'm going to adult to post something about Balladeer, that should go on the alley but the profanity I'm going to express would lead the moderators to move it or delete it). Okay, it's Christmas, I'll be "Holy" till the first of the year....Naw....I won't be either....never mind, disregard this reply......Thanks....(besides, look up Balladeer's history here...you'll see why he really posts here)!!!

’Deer dearest heart what can I say, your writing whether it be a quick scribble or a piece crafted word by word is awesome. Few writers possess the ability and the skill you do, even fewer can write the message they actually wish to convey. YOU DO, and you do yourself a disservice if you imagine for one instant that your writing is anything less than incredible. You write and the world pauses to hear, you write and the clouds that seem to hang heavy overhead part and the sun shines once more, you write and we are privileged to read you. Those who carp and criticise don’t understand one part of this place of refuge, inspiration, hopes dreams and most of all love. Truly you are a star and this is a blessing. I’m glad I return, it shows me why I must read you.

Truly an absolute diamond I love it utterly utterly

Why I Must Come Again

In those days that have flown by
I found my soul I heard its sigh
I read the words that you wrote
And realised that I could float

In these pages shaded blue
I found the words that I knew
Would set me free, let me soar
I read you and wanted more

In the lines that you write here
I found a path that led from fear
The path I walk might be long
But it is lit with your sweet song

In your poems written with skill
I found the way to climb my hill
No truth I need more than this
I found it lay in your poet’s kiss

No matter what you think ‘Deer
Your writing is so good and clear
Each line is written well my friend
May you write on till time does end

Marsha

Love and warm stuff

Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire

Seriously? Loved the thought you gifted in this. Most of us do stay here for the same reasons. Those who don't understand usually drift away, back into one of those other sites where nasty spit and slap are the name of the game. I enjoy honest critiques and healthy comraderie, that's why I stay at Pips.

Why I Come Here....

This is the place which is meant to be
A haven where minds & moods are set free
We gather here with so much glee
In the name of sharing a piece of prose/poetry

Its known here that we agree to disagree
And yet partake in this warmth filled potpourri
I'm so glad for having found this family
A place where I can be happy & be me....

Thank you, Balladeer it's all of you and your words/works that i come here for...
