Some people
spit on the sidewalk
and then walk away,
thinking others will
not mind walking around,
not notice the venom within.
You call it critiquing.
Beware, for you may slip in it
when it fills the cracks in
your side
of the sidewalk.
I've walked through lots of spit
in the past,
so yours doesn't really bother me,
I've learned to look past it.
But even I do not want it
on my sidewalk.

when you choose to criticize nastily, you choose your enemies...yes, good write.

It doesn't even have to be nasty.

Any form of negativity to someone new here is destructive to both parties, and it will cross to their side; the exception would be correcting very poor spelling and/or crossing T's and dotting I's, those such errors.

Much depends on the poet, how many posts they've made....before suggesting a rewrite, or skirting that issue with subtle hints not clearly understood by a newcomer, made by someone you may have had respect for, before that insensitive wording and timing. My e-mail didn't used to be available so to have e-mailed a question for clarity I'd have had to reveal it. What is even more annoying is to be critiqued, and supposedly, the critiquer doesn't come back to see what the poet thought of the critisism. Balogny!  Not believable.

Thank you for this poem.
Warm regards, Pat

The analogy works for me...criticism with a sharp edge cuts deep...critiques that judge the merits of a particular write are much different in tone and attitude than those that find fault or judge harshly...this is a forum of friendship and I hope it stays that way..

LOL at your reply Raph. No one has hassled me lately. But some young whippersnapper has pushed the limits a few times with some others, and I just want to hint (gently) that we don't appreciate that kind of behavior at this board. Not even from OLD whippersnappers.
Thanks to each of you, and may you always stay above board and enjoy only honest quality critiques from others, not flames or....heaven forbid, the spitwad.

BRAVO!!! You go girl! Yes, I believe poetry is a gift from the heart, and everyone has soul, therefore anything written from the soul should not be critiqued like that as I believe every piece of literature has value! (sigh) So keep those sidewalks clean I beseech everyone, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kacy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Midnitesun - now this is a nice write. A lot of meaning that needs to be heeded... Inspired me to write one also...

Smiling at you, Kacy.  You do get riled!!!  And I did too, at first, then thought what the hell...tis the season.  Thought maybe I'd see if kindness would be recognized and returned.  Afterall...youth passes, ya know???

Noah, Bill, Duncan, thanks for reading. Though it's been a really long time since anyone flamed me, I don't care to see anyone here send or receive flames, old or new.

Kacy,
Tortillas Flats, AZ is the town for you! Notice the sign Ginger is ignoring.

Larry! I love tortillas, especially when they're flat.
Ethel, you're welcome.
