City lights have dazzled me since I was but a child
The magic lay within the bright reflection
And even now, in middle years, they drive my senses wild
Displays of light in elegant perfection...

Lights are man’s best effort meant to chase the dark away
To rid the streets of shadows, crime, and worry
But once a year we decorate in wondrous lit display
A shining gift amidst the Christmas flurry...

The reds and blues, the golds and silvers sparkle in the dark
Sending light to every path and alley
The colours decorate and give a street once cold and stark
a festive glow, that tempts the soul to dally...

The elegance of city lights at Christmas time is clear
We find our inner child in their reflection
The magic glows around the world, it reaches far and near
to light the dark in elegant perfection...

Pen how you truly feel...
it is a safety-valve for the soul!

Beautiful images here, Sunnyone... I like this very much. *S* I love lights, too... once they're in place and glowing. *G* Now the untangling and hanging... that's another story! LOL I'd probably get my mouth washed out with soap if anyone was around to hear. *G*

I feel I have to add my two pennyworth, and explain that Sunnyone and I live right slap dang in the middle of one of the larger cities in UK (Pop 298,000).  The shopping Malls, and streets all around town are ablaze with beautiful tablaux, and street lighting done by the Local Authority, a true Festival of Light, and I am sure that they inspired her lovely Poem.
Well done, Sweetheart...XXX

Love it, Sunny!     Each year on Christmas Eve we take a drive through all the neighborhoods checking out the light displays.  It's always so much fun.  Great to see you here. *hugs*

the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,

Hi Vicky, and I think just about everybody enjoys the sights and lights of Christmas, don't you?  It gives us a break from the mundane daily existence!  Thank you, and I hope your Christmas is filled with joy!!

Hi Michael, and I can just picture you with your family checking out the lights, and it's a nice picture, too.  John and I did that this year, and it was one of those little things that I had missed for such a long time, but I have it back again!! Thankyou too, and have a wonderful Christmas!

Hi James, and even though it doesn't snow much in Hawaii, I imagine that Christmas is still all lit up, and very beautiful there!
Merry Christmas to you and your family from me and mine!!

Hi Bill, and yes.....I think you would appreciate the visual things around you, as you have an inquisitive soul.  Thank you, and have a good Christmas!

Hi vandana, and a very special Merry Christmas to you!!  I plan on visiting your country someday, and I think Christmas would be a great time to do just that!!  Thank you, my friend for dropping by for a read!!

Sunny
Loved your story about Christmas lights.  Last Sunday night, a bunch of us went to MGM Studios to see the lights.  Five million lights were on display and I felt like a small child and just stared.  There is so much meaning to the holiday lights and sounds and just a time to be thankful.  Really enjoyed this and I am still smiling!

Hi Ariana!!  and so good to see you here!  I know that I enjoy riding around and seeing the many efforts of the folks here in the city.  It's just something I've always done, and have always enjoyed...the lights of Christmas.  In England, the folks go all out, and I think that is a tradition that has carried down through many centuries! It's fantastic!!  Thank you so much for your reply, and I hope your Christmas is wonderful, and your new year is blessed with happiness throughout!!  ~~S~~

Hi Linda, and Merry Christmas to you!!  Yes, I'm with you...I am always in awe of the lights, be they holiday or otherwise.  I think that is one reason I love living in a big city!!  I spent too many years in Alaska, in the dark of the wilderness. Although nature tends to put on a pretty good show of Northern Lights, and I had a front row seat!!  So, my friend, enjoy the displays, and stay happy!!  (Thank you, too!)
