When next I, nettled,
infer all men mere fleshbags,
I'll remember the lean, quiet
man at the bus stop clemently
blocking the frigid wind

When in my vanity I pose
passing the depressed store
front windows, I'll x-ray shallow
reflection to the often lame
and elderly caged beyond the glass

When cruel memory draws thin
my bitter lips, squints to
glaze my eyes, I'll recall
the erased stare of an ancient,
widowed aunt,

tears which know an end,
  words unspoken to the dead,
    children who no longer are

We're the meek,
we are the earth

Okay... the chronologic tense confused me at the start because it was so jumbled (went from an unusual past-tense [next I nettled?] to imperative present to future tense), but now I wonder if you had a purpose for it.  You seem to have a timeless undertone to this, that you describe a universal and permanent quality of humanity... strange how you did that.

As usual I love your interesting adjective-noun combinations, like "erased stare."  Makes me wonder where you get your inspiration.

Next time I'm standing at the bus stop, I'll remember that I'm remembered.  Thanks for the read.

Richard, there you go again.....making me think about the deeper things of life.
I love the way you do this, and look for your poetry, because I know I'll never be disappointed.

Richard, you, Sir, are one of the most talented and distinguished writers I know. Your poetry naver fails to amaze me.

(And I mean that, too.....I wouldn't write it if I didn't)

I hope that you and yours have very Happy Holidays, kind Sir.......

when I grow up I want to write just like you ----this is a soul whisper, and quite beautiful.
