Secrets

My mirror is the hills and trees
An image marked by changing leaves
It dances in a sudden breeze
It is my soul the branches seize

The trees are like a second skin
They shield the sorrow held within
The woods are thick, the heart is thin
And harbored by embracing limb

My words are echoes to be heard
By earth and moss and perching bird
And only feelings less absurd
Are conjured up for written word

I am an island in this place
No lover’s losses must I face
Protectedby a spider’s lace
And rabbit foot on wild chase

Whoever dares to take a look
At visions lulling by a brook
Will see the wonders that I took
And harvested in poet’s book

The mirror is the written page
Reflecting thoughts that I engage
And with the turning of each age
Are forest secrets I have saved

No one will take an autumn breath
Or read these words before my death
Of wooded hills and volume’s breadth
I am at peace within their depth

This carries such an old world timeliness with it, Lady Santos...I would see this framed, and hung where it could be enjoyed, for it's universal appeal.

Elizabeth~
Lovely as always, my friend.
I agree with Martie...you've painted a picture
of 'you', and it's a masterpiece.

Thank you, Vicky for finding this poem hidden away from last month. It slipped so quickly by and now I find all the beautiful comments. Thank you all for your kind remarks and Vicky for digging up fly away poems
I am very appreciative
