Ssshhhh,

Go to sleep and dream,
    find some peace,
away from life
    where nightmares
never fail to cease.

Ssshhhh,

Sing a lullaby
    to yourself
in songless space
    alone in the night
where terror has no face.

Ssshhhh,

Smile away the fear
    hoping your perfection
brings you some relief
    from them,   then,
hold yourself and weep.

Ssshhhh,

Sing and smile, awhile,
    freedom twice,
releasing ghosts
    on your way to a
loving paradise.

Ssshhhh,

Go to sleep and dream.

What a peaceful night wish this is, for only pleasant dreams, no nightmares.

Thanks for the responses, they are interesting.  This is written on behalf of all neglected and abused children. Perhaps you need the experience to have the understanding.
Or, I need to rewrite.

Though very much an adult now, the memories will always be there, just not the emotions.

The child here would be quite young.
(lullaby singing)

Thanks to all of you. Hugs, Pat

for a minute there, I thought you were writing this for me...not that I was neglected or abused as a child but it can be applied to an adult too, in a way.

A beautiful caring loving write, that comes from a heart of such a person.

Dixie, That is really interesting. I guess I should re-read my own poetry from different angles. So glad you took the time to express your thoughts. I am so late today. trying to work at home, be someplace two hours ago and read this board, which I enjoy so much. But, I had to respond to your rely. I really will re-read it but, when we are going through much pain and confusion we are childlike, least I am, so I can see how this would work... Appreciate you, Pat

Noah, thanks for the reply. Yes, some go through much, before they are five, even....the formative years have such an impact on the rest of life....

Hugs,  Pat

sweet enough ...comforting enough...soft enough..to sing to a baby.  A wonderfully cozy read.
