After the blizzard had spent itself,
I stepped out of my lakeside cabin
into a cold, moonlit night.
With every breath that I took,
icy plumes billowed before me into
the frosty night air.
As I made my way down to the trail
that meandered through a stand of
ancient evergreens, I sank through
the newly fallen snow to the crystallized
crust below.
With each footfall, the crunching sound
echoed throught the stillness of this
beautiful winter's night.
I could hear the scurrying of creatures
as they sought refuge from their perceived
danger.
As the trail ended, I came upon a clearing.
There before me lay a vista that will forever
be imprinted upon my mind.
The reflected light of the luminescent
moon lit up the night, turning it into day.
Tall cedar trees sagged under the weight
of their mantle of white as their crisp
shadows reached across the blue-white snow
of the pristine landscape.
In the distance, above the treetops,
the shimmering northern lights swayed
slowly in their undulating, celestial dance.
The electromagnetic energies filled
the night with an air of expectancy.
As I beheld the dazzling glory before me,
an inner peace pervaded my soul.
I became at one with the entire universe and
this realization filled me with joy.

Now, whenever the stresses
of every day living begin
to sap my life force,
I close my eyes and put myself
back into the untouched beauty of
God's Country.

This could only be written by one who has felt the glory of new snow on a moonlight night.  I grew up in Minnesota and would often deliver my newpapers on moonlit new snow, unmarred by car or footprint.  Thank you for the memories.  KJ

There is a part of PA that they call Gods country.  This is exactly what it would be like there in the mountains.  Just beautiful!!

I'd make a lousy editor! It doesn't matter how many times I proof read my work before posting it, you will usually see "Edited by Earth Angel" at the bottom of my poem! Thank you for pointing out "plum".....I have now changed it to "plume" and have edited this poem--yet again!  --but I'm not counting because I can't count that high!
hehe

And may you never lose your ability to write like this. This is gorgeous. You took us there, which I particularly like, for I didn't have to be cold.
Instead I breathed in the beauty which you captured so well, leaving wonderful serenity and peace.

Thanks, Hugs, Pat

Oh, thank you so much for your kind words! It pleases me greatly that this poem has been so well received. I truly cannot do justice to what I beheld that night, but at least I was able to share my experience, even if it is only in a small way.

~ May you always be surrounded by the beauty nature

Your wanting to see snow, is quite a compliment! Thanx!

I love snow so much! I don't mind shovelling it nor do I mind the cold! I enjoy winter sports as well as playing in it!---making snow angel, building snow forts, snowball fights!

~ May the day come when you can frolic in the snow and behold its crystal beauty!

This is so very pretty Linda.
I think everyone knows of a place
that they refer to as God's Country...
To me it has always been northern Ontario.
Thank you...This is a keeper!
