Listening to every heart

From the Soddy Diary 1870

Once again the Christmas bell
Rang o’er the crisp and frozen dell
Blue eyes held fast light of green
Two gazed upon their Christmas scene

Children snug ‘neath quilts of warm
Safe from ever-present harm
Father hugging mother near
The sound of love within her dear

Gingerbread scent filled the room
The smell of jam set with bloom
Tomorrow the house would be so gay
With children’s smiles on Christmas day

Candles flickered low this night
Christmas spruce held ribbons bright
A whisper “wait” from lips so near
“for one more gift, this Midnight Clear”

A shawl around her narrow frame
He called, “come”, and then her name,
She stood beside him outside their door
Her heart then filled with light, and more

For there upon the white-scaped scene,
A beautiful star to fulfill all dreams
“God looks down from high above,
and blesses me with your ever-love.”

A gift more pure one cannot buy
As her green met his blue eyes
As their lips met in warmth to meld,
This Christmas theirs, in two hearts, held.

~*~

Merry Christmas to All from one of Then
Keep close stories of Where, and When

What caring and yearning your words evoke.  This is just glorious.  KJ

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

I usually don't get emotional around Christmas but reading stuff like this...it's hopeless to try to remain in tact.

Beatiful poem.. Thanks for sharing.

I wish to become a great poet some day, but it will only come in time. Til then, I shall write my poems, and wait.
