Between a laugh and a tear...

Bushman’s Lust

It came to us early, this bushman’s lust
‘Twas born in the Barrington, in that bright red dust
It can’t be explained, it’s just something you know
And once it grabs hold, it never lets you go

People often ask, and wonder why
But to try and understand, you need to travel high
Where the rivers flow through mountain gums
And the air is cool under the winter sun

There are many now who venture there
They all come and go with barely a care
But I doubt they could ever truly understand
How it is for those who’ve lived that land

I’ve heard some say it’s a feeling of pride
It’s more than that, it’s so very deep inside
It matters not how far we may roam
For in our heart and soul we’ve only one home

So we go back when we can, for our holiday
And we watch the newcomers’ laugh and play
But it’s not same; it’s a little different for us
Cause we know the power, of the Bushman’s Lust

this flows so gracefully, and it's like a story handed down, very neat write Eddie!

Well I've never been called graceful before lol. Yeah it does have that kind of story feel to it, guess I’ve been reminiscing too much of late. Thanks for stopping bye, take care!

For in our heart and soul we’ve only one home

...that one special place that is our own...lovely, enjoyed!

"to try and understand, you need to travel high

Nice imagery here.

In a different line, barley? or barely?
I chuckled at the 'barley a care'
is that to undeline the way you might pronounce it down under?

I liked the story feel to this one, too, Ed. Thank you for sharing your poetry.

nicely told... and the memories of where we were and what we were a part of often lead us to the understanding much is lost, becaus the soul of those places is being lost...

Eddie,
so you feel it too? It stirs my heart whenever I'm away. Good story.
